Agricultural Land of Hyderabad State
- The Agricultural Land of the erstwhile Hyderabad State was divided into six categories.
- Registered Lands owned by the Farmers.
- Land owned by the Jagirdars and
Zamindars.
- Land owned by Nizam(Sarfaqhas lands)
- Waqf Lands
- Temple Lands
- Enam Lands
Registered Lands owned by the Farmers
The title of the land was
given to the farmers and it was transferable from one owner to the other. There
was a perfect Stamps and Registration Department in the Royal Government. A
Village Officer named Patwari used to maintain a register of Record of the
Lands along with the Survey no and its countours. He used to collect 100% Land
Revenue with the help of other Village Officers.
Jagirdars and Zamindars
Totally a feudal system
was existing in Hyderabad State. There was only one Owner of the Land of the
whole village called Jagirdar and Zaminda and the feudal landlord used to lease
out his hands to different tenants for cultivation on temporary basis. Those
Jagirdars and Zamindars used to collect land revenue from the tenants and they
would remit a portion of it to the Nizam’s exchequer keeping the residual part
for their personal use.
The Muslim feudal Land Lords, who
constitute less than 10% in their class were called Jagirdars and the Hindu
Feudal Land Lords, who constitute nearly 90% were called Zamindars. After the
Police Action on 17th September, 1948, fearing reprisals fled the
country and settled in Pakistan while their lands were grabbed by the Andhra
ruling class in and around Hyderabad city subsequently. The Zamindars, who
exploited the Hindu tenants as the representatives of the monarchic regime of
the Nizam, became M.L.As/M.Ps and Ministers both in the democratic Governments
of erstwhile Hyderabad State and the State of Andhra Pradesh, and they totally
ignored the interests of common man of Telangana Region. At no point of time
these elite sections raised their voice against the injustices meted out to the
people of Telangana by the Andhra Ruling Class.
Land owned by the Nizam
Though Nizam was the
absolute monarch for the State of Hyderabad, which was a separate country with
in British India, he kept a part of the land of his country for his personal
use and also to meet the expenses of his harem. Such land was called the Sarfeqhas
Land. These lands admeasuring 6 to 7 Lakh acres were lying in and around
Hyderabad City and in Ranga Reddy District. These large chunks of fallow lands
remained the main source of attraction for the Anhra Rulers and they have
grabbed these prime lands.
Waqf Lands
The Nizam had allotted
certain extent of land to the Durgahs of the Muslim priests and for grave
yards. These lands were called Waqf Lands. There were Lakhs of Acers of Waqf
Lands throughout Hyderabad State. These lands became an easy prey to the Andhra
Land grabbers and their henchmen hailing from Telangana. The famous Lanco Hills
and Marriot Hotel were located in these Waqf Lands only.
Temple Lands
Land is for the Temple
purpose.
Enam Lands
Village administration
headed by a Kulak by name Police Patel. The Nizam had allotted certain amount
of land to this menial staff as a token of gift. Such a gift land is called
Eenam Land, which is not transfefrable on account of sale.
