History of Computers

Man has always been making efforts to evolve better methods of counting and computing to make his life easier. Initially mechanical devices were developed to make counting simple. This was followed by electronic devices and now we have very sophisticated electronic devices known as computer to do this work  for us. The history of  computers, which is long tale, here we will discuss in brief.

Counting with Fingers And Pebbles

This is the ealiest method of counting which we use even now. Our ancestors did not have any computing  machines , so they used to count with help of stones and with fingures.

Abacus

The Abacus (G.K. Abacus ) means board or calculating table. This device was first invented by Egyptian in 450 B.C. Later it was the first mechanical calculating device. Abacus consisted of a rectangular wooden frame , having iron rods. A divider with coloured beads in rows was used for calculating and beads effect the value of the number. The beads are moved according to certain rules in order  to solve problems of calculating . A skilled abacus operator can add up numbers faster than a modern calculator.
